STAYNER - Local municipal officials and community leaders will have a chance to speak with Simcoe-Grey MP Helena Guergis at an economic roundtable meeting on Mon., Jan. 18.
Clearview Mayor Ken Ferguson is hosting the meeting, which runs from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the township office on Gideon Street in Stayner.
“She approached us in December about doing something like this, wanting to know our concerns and what have you. It’s all about communication,” Ferguson said. “We’ve invited representatives from the BIA, council and staff will be there, the chamber and our Economic Development Committee. The big idea is to hear the concerns of people on the street.”
Guergis wants to receive local comments and ideas that she can bring to cabinet for discussion in the lead up to the next federal budget, which is expected to be presented to Parliament in March.
The mayor said that Clearview will press Guergis on the need for more infrastructure funding and money for recreation initiatives.
Also at the meeting, Guergis will discuss the economic outlook for Canada and how it will impact Simcoe County and in particular, Clearview Township.
“This is going to be a good opportunity for everyone,” Ferguson said.
